Bassem Boctor, DVM
Dr. Bassem Boctor graduated in 1992 from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Alexandria University in Egypt. He chose the veterinary profession because he feels “on top of the world” when he can minimize animal suffering and improve the lives of pets and their families.
In 2000, Dr. Boctor and his family immigrated to Canada to pursue their dreams. By 2002, he had successfully completed the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE) and the academic portion of the National Board Examination. He then spent two years working diligently in small- and mixed-animal hospitals, where he met and exceeded Canadian standards in small animal medicine and surgery, radiology, pathology, anesthesiology, equine medicine, and food animal medicine.
By working in numerous veterinary hospitals, Dr. Boctor gained extensive, diverse clinical experience. He passed the Clinical Proficiency Examination at the University of Saskatchewan’s veterinary medical school, which allowed him to practice as a licensed veterinarian anywhere in Canada. He further strengthened his skills by working for nearly two years in 24-hour emergency hospitals, gaining solid experience in both routine and emergency care.
Driven by his desire to make high-quality veterinary care more accessible and comfortable for pets and their owners, Dr. Boctor opened a mobile veterinary practice in 2006. Through dedication and hard work, he expanded the practice from just 4 square feet (the trunk of his car) to a fully equipped 3,600-square-foot clinic. The business grew significantly and earned an outstanding reputation in the community.
Dr. Boctor is known for always going the extra mile to ensure pets and their families receive the most effective and compassionate care. Due to the clinic’s strong reputation, he received an offer from a reputable company and chose to sell the practice so he could focus more on patient care rather than daily administrative duties. For seven consecutive years, the clinic was ranked among the three best-rated animal hospitals in St. Catharines. After 18 years as a business owner, Dr. Boctor felt he had achieved his professional goals and decided to change his strategy. In January 2024, he and his wife relocated to Florida to begin a new chapter.
Dr. Boctor is highly proficient in internal medicine, emergency care, anesthesia and pain management, soft tissue surgery, dental extractions, and oral surgery. He is currently enrolled in an intensive two-year internal medicine program, aiming to become a certified internal medicine practitioner by 2027. In addition, he has completed multiple hands-on courses in dental extractions, abdominal ultrasound, ophthalmology medicine and surgery, and emergency medicine. Additionally and more importantly, Dr. Boctor is very proud that he is involved in a 24-month intensive internal medicine course to be a Certified Veterinary Internal Medicine practitioner, which is one step below a specialist.
Dr. Boctor and his wife, Niven, live with their four children—Julie, John, David, and Jacob—and their beloved Shih Tzu, Daisy. John is proudly following in his father’s footsteps as a veterinarian. Outside of work, Dr. Boctor enjoys walking, swimming, and playing chess online with people from around the world.
Dr. Boctor strongly believes in two mottos:
“When there’s a will, there’s a way,” and “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”
